Just in case you haven’t heard yet, Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04) has been released on the 29th of April.
Once again, the way Linux is being distributed amazes me over and over. Update manager just let me know that 10.04 became available and asked me whether I wanted to upgrade. I said “yes” and after some downloading and reboot I was up and running with 10.04.
First thing that I’ve noticed right away and I think wasn’t well thought through was the fact that all the usual right upper hand corner window controls (minimize, maximize, close) have been moved to the top left corner of the window. Luckily that was changeable in the appearance preferences. Other than that, noticeable change in boot up time – pretty much like driving a newer model of the car that you are used to, have been driving for a little while and ready to upgrade. So far I have only upgraded my notebook’s OS, but once I’ll upgrade one of my servers, I’ll try to dig deeper into the changes between 10.04 and the previous release and what do they mean to us, users.
